Typeface Design
Decorium draws direct inspiration from the delicate geometry and intricate flourishes of Victorian stained glass. Each character combines bold, architectural forms with intricate internal detailing, mirroring the craftsmanship of hand-cut glass and wrought iron.
Decorium is ideal for headlines, posters, visual drama and identity work that calls for historic elegance and that brings a sense of timeless artistry to any typographic setting.
The Process
I spent a significant amount of time first creating the basic outlines of the letterforms before diving into the interior patterns of the font. Focusing on the overall shapes early on allowed me to establish the rhythm, balance, and personality of the type, making it easier to refine the look and feel of the font as a whole. Once the foundational structure felt right, I was able to add intricate interior details with confidence, knowing they would complement the overall design rather than overwhelm it.
