Puerto Del Sol Dorado

Themed Entrance Portal

On the shores of the Caribbean, the Spanish established a thriving colony called Puerto del Sol Dorado (Port of the Golden Sun). Its harbor held the wealth of the New World and a grand Spanish galleon, La Estrella del Mar (The Star of the Sea, commanded by Captain Antonio de la Vega, watched over from the harbor as the town's pride and protector.

One fateful night, the horizon erupted in cannon fire as a fleet of pirates (led by Captain Corinna Vale) launched a daring attack on the port. The battle raged from ship to shore. La Estrella del Mar fought valiantly but was struck and torn apart. The shattered ship still rests at the harbor entrance, split clean in two.

The pirates stormed the town, looting its treasures and claiming Puerto del Sol Dorado as their own. Yet instead of destroying it, they transformed it. The pirates reshaped the colony into a town where freedom and fortune reign.

Today, guests enter Puerto del Sol Dorado by walking through the shattered hull of La Estrella del Mar. They pass directly through Captain Antonio de la Vega's office as it remains frozen in time capturing the eerie moment of the ship's final stand.

The Process

The portal began as a simple Spanish Colonial–style wall entrance and gradually evolved into a more complex and immersive idea. In its final form, it transformed into a 1700s Spanish galleon torn in two during battle. While historical accuracy remained an important foundation, I wanted to push beyond realism and reimagine the ship in a more fantastical way to create a portal that feels both grounded in history and unmistakably otherworldly.
